To prevent the frustration of falling behind, which most of us tend to do when following a Bible reading plan, each month of this plan gives you only twenty-five readings. Today we start a few “free days” . We encourage you to catch up on any readings you may have missed this month.

If you have finished the month’s readings, you can use these final days of the month to study the passages that challenged or intrigued you.

Daily Devotion

Years ago I recall an exchange between co-workers that went something like this.

“How are you doing?”
“Oh, I’m getting by. And how are you doing today?”
“Well, you know, I’m just trying to survive.”

Like you, I’ve heard many variants of this seemingly simple work place response to inquires of how one is currently doing.

One of my favorites that I’ve heard is, “Another day, another dollar ” AND “another two dollars in the hole!” Or something similar.

None of these answers to the apparently innocent inquiry of a person’s well being portray a positive, uplifting, encouraging or faith building response.

When applying a scriptural filter to “how we ought to answer every man”, we needn’t dig very deep nor study for hours on end to conclude that God did not create and save you to “just get by”!

On the contrary, we were designed by the Creator to THRIVE in the Holy Ghost!!!

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Maybe we need regular reminders from the scriptures that we are not meant to “just survive”.    According to God’s word we are to:

  •  “…WALK in the SPIRIT…” (Galatians 5:16)
  • We are instructed to “…come BOLDLY unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy…” (Hebrews 4:16)
  • Paul wrote to Timothy, “But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, PURPOSE, faith, long suffering, charity, patience” (2 Timothy 3:10)
  • Finally, we are to walk like we’ve been REEDEMED; “Christ hath REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW…” (Galatians 3:13)

So we are NOT just serving, we are NOT just getting by, we are NOT spinning our wheels aimlessly in this life but we are walking in the the Spirit. We are walking boldly. We are walking with a God given purpose AND we are walking like we’ve been REDEEMED!
