Day 357 – Scriptures of Peace

December 24, 2022

Psalm 34:8-14

8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

9 O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?

13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

The Broken Place & The Scattered Pieces

By: Marthalee Lyman

Read…Psalm 38:8-14 And we think WE have troubles! David literally sings his brokenness! He groans and roars at the turmoil within him. He calls out each complaint to the LORD with a passion and an openness that surely must get God’s attention!

Dear fellow traveler, it is within the setting of these written screams that we can take instruction. Please tell God all about EVERYTHING that breaks your spirit, your heart and troubles your mind.

You will find, as David always did, that God is near the brokenhearted and he hears the groaning and pleading of the contrite ones. Will he answer the way we expect? Most likely not…but his solutions will reflect the perfect will he has for each life.

How many times in the last five years I have broken down in abject grief and helplessness I could not count! How does one make sense of life, anyway? Why we yell “WHY” at the sky and wallow in our confusion seems to be part of the human condition. And Jesus understands. Really he does.

Over time, dear friends, the puzzle pieces begin to assemble. It is through our honest and continual conversation with this great invisible Being as we pour out our complaints; curled up in His arms, that we attain some degree of comfort and reason; and thereby rise to meet another day.

There is still a great work to accomplish for The Kingdom. Believe that. Pray that. Weep and groan and be broken before him. Perhaps this is being made conformable unto his death, that we might rise with him at the great clarion trumpet call…soon and VERY soon…

Weep for the hurting, rend the heart and not the garment. Find some sack cloth and ashes and repent deeply. David found God in this place…so will we.
