The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psalm 28:7 is a beautiful type of our personal testimonies.

The psalmist starts with pointing out the foundational truth that the Lord is our Strength and our Protector. Our own abilities are frail without His hand upon us. We can recognize the blows that would harm us and possibly change our direction are stopped by the everlasting Shield .

When we are walking in the Spirit, our heart totally trusts in Him. It’s our testimony that we stand upon, that we hold to as personal. We then draw encouragement when we look back over what He has done throughout our lives. We can draw joy, encouragement and strength from remembering and sharing what only God could do for us in our time of need.

The psalmist ends this verse with these words: “…with my song will I praise him”. When we take ownership of what God has done in our personal life, then we offer up a song of praise that is unique to each individual. That is the praise that God is looking for from his creation, you and I.
