Choices, Choices, Choices
By Susan Jeffries

Every decision that we make has some kind of consequence or reaction to it. I’m talking about  getting a return from every action or lack of action we make.

Here are some verses that stick  out to me.

Cheating others vs. being fair and honest:

“A false balance is abomination to the LORD: But a just weight is his delight.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭KJV

Clean godly thoughts vs. dirty perverse thoughts and actions:

“The integrity of the upright shall guide them: But the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11:3‬ ‭KJV

There’s always a blessing when we make a good choice. We can avoid consequences leading down a wide path of destruction when we choose to obey the direction found in the Word of God.

These first few verses are just a few but there are so many, in fact every single one gives us something to help guide us through our walk with God and remind us how we can live a blessed life blessing others.

This one hits home for the time in which we are living. Clearly our actions as christians  affect our city.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

As I reflect on the past few years and how just a few words ignited an entire uprising in communities across this nation and world, the outcome was similar to the later part of this verse. That’s how the enemy wants it, brother against brother and nation against nation.   When we begin to speak blessings into our friends, neighbors and city, when we begin to think and move towards the coming of the Lord, our self driven desires should melt away. The desire to please God with our life and walk  and  the Lord’s work for us in “saving souls” should become more and more focused in these last days. Here’s another similar verse.

“He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: But he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What we say matters!

Our mouth can either bless our own lives and others  or can bring distruction and overthrow God’s plan for our lives.

In a book called “The Lost Choice”   by Andy Andrews, he lays out a long line of people through history that had passed on to them a relic, I believe there were four of them. The words on them were  a proclamation. Words such as, “ by your hand the people shall be fed” and “by your hand the people shall be free” just to name a few. I have not finished the book yet. The parallel between the book and the Proverbs are that we all have choices. The underlying theme of the book is   that people make bad choices and sometimes don’t choose anything at all. When no choice is made it actually is still a choice but it is called the “lost choice” according to this book And I would concur.

We all choose whether it be to do nothing or to do something. A choice to do nothing becomes a lost opportunity to do something. I do not want to walk around thinking of all the lost choices in my life.  We have salvation because Jesus died for us, and rose again giving us the gift of the Holy Ghost to guide us. We have the Proverbs to guide us into abundant blessings, joy and a hope of eternity.  Cherie Carter-Scott, a motivational speaker and author stated this and I quote, “ There are no mistakes, only lessons.”

I agree with this very much! Every so-called mistake we make does provide a lesson, therefore we learn something. We can choose to learn from these lessons and move forward. I’m very thankful that I have choices. I will choose to be intentional and allow God to direct me so that I am living in a place where his blessings will overflow and his plan will be played out in my life.

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; And a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Choose wisely and then get moving!
