A Little History
Senior Bible Quizzing is a ministry within the General Youth Division of the United Pentecostal Church. Senior Bible Quizzing has served young people for over fifty years. Students between the ages of 12-18 study and memorize 400-500 verses of scripture each quiz season.
Leaders generate twenty questions on the assigned material, ranging in value from 10 to 30 points per question. During competition, there are several types of questions, with 30 seconds allotted for answers. The students know their material well enough to interrupt most of the questions before they are completely read. If interrupted, the Quizzer that ‘buzzed in,’ not only gives the answer, but also must correctly complete the interrupted question.
The competition is challenging, and those who study and dedicate their time to the Word of God often score well enough as a team to qualify for the Annual National Convention. This is a week-long event for all quiz teams across the nation. Many trophies are awarded, lasting friendships built, and confidence and character developed richly in the students, coaches and all who participate.
Eastside Senior Bible Quizzing
At Eastside Apostolic, our leadership has made Bible Quizzing a part of our church culture. The season lasts from October through July with weekly practices, daily review and memorizing, and monthly state-wide Quiz meets beginning in January. Church volunteers called ‘Quiz Angels’ will commit to reviewing with the students on a consistent plan to support the parents and coaches each week.
As the students memorize the Material and prepare for the fun and challenging competition, their knowledge and understanding of God and his Word deepen. Many adults that spent time in Bible Quizzing will testify to the incredible impact this ministry has had on their lives.
Junior Bible Quizzing teaches the students HOW to Quiz. Senior Bible Quizzing teaches the students WHY we Quiz. They start while they are very young, and this ministry carries them to adulthood; deeply grounded in the truths of God’s Holy Word.
